A man suspected in a series of residential burglaries was arrested Tuesday after Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies say the he was caught stealing Blu-ray discs from a local electronics store.

Deputies had been following a 25-year-old man for a few weeks on leads that he was committing burglaries in several neighborhoods in the Millcreek area in which he allegedly made off with high-priced electronics and sold them to pawn shops.

An arrest warrant for the man had been secured before one detective followed the man and his wife from their home near 200 East and 1300 South to a local FYE store. The man entered the store while his wife waited outside in a car, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.

"Our detective watched him leave the store rapidly with things in his hands," Hutson said. "Employees came out looking for someone, and the detective wondered if he just robbed the place, and then followed him."

Deputies believed the man might be armed and waited to pull the pair over in a secure location near Foothill Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue about 2 p.m.

Broque Mackenzie was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on a warrant for residential burglaries. His wife, Brook Mackenzie, was also arrested.
