PROVO — It's hard to escape the long arm of the law when you're wearing leg irons, as a female inmate learned Monday.

The woman was at the Provo courthouse to face drug and assault charges. A sheriff's deputy said the woman paged him from her holding cell and said she needed toilet paper, according to an affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

When the officer brought her a roll, the woman tried to rush out the open cell door but didn't get far. She told the officer she had removed her handcuffs.

Malisa Sorenson, 22, of Salt Lake City, is now being investigated for escape from custody and resisting arrest in addition to her original charges.
