Bryce Whitney, son of Springville Fire Chief Phil Whitney, receives the U.S. flag that had been draped on his father's casket during graveside services at Evergreen Cemetery on Monday. Phil Whitney, 72, the Springville fire chief of 25 years, died suddenly at his home last Wednesday morning. The fire chief's death has been called a great loss to the whole community, and he was described as well-loved and well-known. "I don't envy the man who tries to replace him," said Lt. Dave Caron of Springville police. Whitney leaves behind five children and numerous grandchildren.
