Corrupt legal system

I was disgusted, albeit not really surprised, to learn that prosecutors are charging defendants a fee for discovery in criminal charges against them. That the practice was upheld by the appellate court is appalling.

Our Founding Fathers purposely made it cumbersome for government to prosecute a crime, the logic being that government would therefore only prosecute truly criminal activity. Somehow, dishonest officials flip-flopped the system and made it unreasonably onerous for an individual to defend himself, and then they cashed in on the guilt. Charging a fee for discovery is the capstone of a corrupt legal system.
