Countrified

Good songs never get old.

Or is it old songs never get good?

Anyway.

Broadcast Music Inc. announced last week that Queen's classic stadium anthem, "We Will Rock You," was the most-played song at NFL, NHL and MLB games last year.

The song has been played more than 3 million times in the U.S. since its release in 1977, which accounts for almost 18 years of air time.

In other words, nearly the length of Karl Malone's career.

Not that the Mailman would have noticed. He was listening to "I was Country when Country Wasn't Cool" in his head all that time.

So never mind.

Song-spiration

For just the second time ever, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang the national anthem for a Jazz game.

The choir did so at Friday's home opener against the L.A. Clippers.

Which was nice. But considering the Jazz's injury woes, and the Western Conference's talent, wouldn't it really have been better if it had delivered its best rendition of "Climb Every Mountain"?

Powering up

UNLV is offering a minor in solar and renewable energy.

Hmmmm ... renewable energy.

Sounds like something the school's 3-6 football team could use.

Artaste

The Lakers' summer acquisition, Ron Artest, is already working on his profile in L.A.

He showed up nine days ago to introduce a milkshake in his honor at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood. According to the L.A. Times, the concoction included blueberry, peach, pineapple, protein, soy milk and non-dairy ice cream.

Yuck — er, yum!

No word on whether it has an official name, but I'm thinking something like this: the Blueberry-Peach Bleacher Assault.
