Man sought in bank robbery
Cottonwood Heights police and the FBI are looking for a second man they believe was involved in a bank robbery last month.
Alejandro Torres, 31, is wanted in the investigation of an armed robbery at Mountain America Credit Union, 6440 S. 3000 East in September, according to a statement released Monday by the FBI.
Two men barged into the credit union on Sept. 30, brandishing guns and masks and ordering everyone to the floor while demanding cash, according to a criminal complaint field in federal court. Bank employees said the robbers drove away in a silver Jaguar.
A citizen read about the crime on a local news Web site and called police after recalling someone in a silver Jaguar who had thrown a bag of clothing into a Dumpster at an apartment complex in Murray. Police found the clothing and say it appeared to match the outfits worn by the robbers.
Investigators were waiting by the Dumpster when a silver Jaguar pulled in, and officers arrested Jose Michael Almarez.
Almarez stated he lived nearby, but after a consented search, police found two handguns seeming to match the description of those used in the robbery and a large amount of cash, according to the FBI.
Investigators say Torres should be considered "armed and dangerous." Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 801-579-1400.
