Vintage cartoons released on DVD

Cartoons for kids and nostalgic adults who grew up in the 1960s and '70s are among these family-friendly shows that are new to DVD.

"The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show: The Complete Collection" (Warner, 1979-81, four discs, $44.98). This is the DVD debut for this Saturday-morning cartoon series that was based on a DC comic. Plastic Man is a superhero whose body is like rubber and who battles bad guys around the world with help from sidekick Hula Hula and girlfriend Penny.

"Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse" (Disney, 2009, $26.99). This holiday cartoon features Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck and more than 30 other Disney cartoon characters from Belle to the Lion King as they are snowed in together and share home movies.

"Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" (Disney/Blu-ray, 2009, two discs, $39.99). Second straight-to-video computer-animated sequel to "Peter Pan" has Tink learning to take responsibility for her own actions.

"Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1960s, Volume 2" (Warner, two discs, $26.99)."Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1970s, Volume 2" (Warner, two discs, $26.99). As the titles suggest, these are collections of episodes from popular cartoon shows of the '60s ("Quick Draw McGraw," "Peter Potamus," "Atom Ant," "Magilla Gorilla") and '70s ("The Hair Bair Bunch," "Inch High Private Eye," "Shazzan," "The New Adventures of Batman and Robin," voiced by Adam West and Burt Ward).

Extras: full frame, 34 episodes from 13 series ('60s), 21 episodes from 12 series ('70s), featurettes, trailers

"The Secret Saturdays: Vol. 2" (Cartoon Network/Warner, 2008, $14.97). Zack Saturday and clan continue to protect the world from evil, rescuing a sunken city, battling The Owlman, etc.

"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom & Chicka Chicka 1-2-3" (Scholastic, 2009, two discs, $19.95). Stories about counting and learning for children ages 3-8 in a variety of animation styles, including "Wild About Books" and "Emily's First 100 Days of School." Catherine O'Hara is one of the readers.

"Treasury of 100 Storybook Classics" (Scholastic, 2009, 16 discs, $99.95). As the title suggests, this is a collection of "Scholastic Storybook Treasures" animated shorts (for children ages 2-9), including "Where the Wild Things Are" (with a Maurice Sendak interview), "Curious George Rides a Bike," "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" and the above "Chicka Boom" titles. Celebrity readers include Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Forest Whitaker and Cyndi Lauper.
