Utah Utes volleyball: Team sweeps UNLV behind big day for Bartkowiak

Junior opposite hitter Karolina Bartkowiak recorded her ninth double-double of the season as the University of Utah volleyball team earned a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-19, 16-24) against UNLV Saturday at Crimson Court.

Utah (15-7, 8-2 MWC) outhit the Rebels, .203 to .053, and held an 8-3 advantage in team blocks.

Bartkowiak hit for 12 kills on 24 swings with only two errors for a .417 hitting percentage. She reached double-digits in kills for the 15th time this season and 29th of her career. Her double-figure-dig match was her 12th this season, and 12th of her career. She reached that feat in Utah's last five matches. The Aurora, Ill., native also had three blocks.

Cinthia Silva recorded 10 kills, her 11th double-figure-kill performance in 2009, and also had two digs.

From the back row, junior libero Keisha Fisher had 14 digs for her 16th straight double-figure-dig match. She now has now reached that mark in 21 of 22 matches this season and 54 times in her career. The Ririe, Idaho native also served a career-high six service aces.

The Utes travel to Albuquerque to face the Lobos Thursday at 7 p.m.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE 3, SUU 0: At Fargo, N.D., conference-leading NDSU swept the T-Birds 25-13, 25-14 and 25-18. SUU falls to 6-18 on the year and 4-10 in the Summit League. NDSU recorded its 18th consecutive home win and 34th consecutive conference win with the victory, improving to 19-3 overall and 15-0 in conference.

NEW MEXICO STATE 3, USU 0: At Logan, the Aggies fell to 13-12 on the season and 4-8 in WAC play with a 31-29, 25-16, 25-21 loss. Junior middle blocker Danielle Taylor came off the bench to lead Utah State with eight kills.

NORTH DAKOTA 3, UVU 2: At Grand Forks, N.D., the Wolverines fell out of first place in the Great West Conference volleyball standings Saturday with a 25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 25-23, 13-15 loss. They (17-9) are 7-2 in league play and in a tie with NJIT (5-2) with three matches remaining.

SOUTHERN IDAHO 3, SLCC 1: At Twin Falls, Idaho, in the final regular season SWAC match Salt Lake CC was unable to steal a road win from a tough CSI team, losing in four sets 12-25, 21-25, 28-26 and 21-25. Salt Lake CC finishes the regular season with a 8-2 SWAC record and a 25-7 mark overall.
