PROVO — A Las Vegas man who robbed a Provo pharmacy after chatting with store employees for more than an hour was sentenced last week to at least five years in prison.

Jack Rader, 23, was sentenced in 4th District Court to a term of five years to life in the Utah State Prison, with credit for 116 days served. He pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

Police said that after his long conversation with employees at Walgreens, 1315 N. State, early on June 29, Rader told a pharmacist he wanted OxyContin and oxycodone and pulled out a pistol. He then jumped over the counter and grabbed several bottles of each type of pill before running out, police said. Rader was arrested July 1 in La Verkin, Washington County.

As part of his sentence, he was also ordered to pay Walgreens more than $9,000 in restitution.
