All-time series: Springville leads 1-0

Coach vs. Coach: Sky View's Craig Anhder and Springville's Scott Mitchell, first meeting

Last meeting: 3A first round, Nov. 1, 1985 — Springville 38, Sky View 7 (Note: Scott Mitchell was Springville's QB in that game)

When asked what one thing stood out about his Springville Red Devils this season to make them a good football team and the Region 8 champions, coach Scott Mitchell decided there isn't any one thing.

"I think one of the keys has been that we have been a very balanced football team," he said. "We have a lot of really good football players all over the place. We have solid guys on offense, defense, special teams. If you stop one person, somebody else steps up. There has been somebody different stepping up almost every game for us. You can't just key in on one thing or one person to stop. I think that is what has made us a pretty good team this season."

When pressed, Mitchell decided that while all aspects of his team have been outstanding, his defensive line has stood out as one of the biggest factors in the team's success.

"Our defense overall has probably been the biggest strength, and our D-line has been a big reason why. They are all very tough guys that want to make plays," he said.

Jeff Gueck, Aaron Turley, Landon Roney and Brody Swanson have really stepped to the front as leaders, and their collective abilities to both plug holes up front to stop the run and put pressure on opposing quarterbacks when they pass has been a key in the team rolling to a perfect 5-0 record in region.

If the Red Devils want to continue their season, the four guys up front, along with the rest of the defense, will need to key on stopping Sky View's all-everything quarterback Kyler Carlsen.

Springville's Marcus Case, who had a huge game in his team's region-clinching victory over Spanish Fork earlier this month, is hoping for similar production against Sky View in the opening round of the 4A playoffs.
