Since last Saturday, a day after Provo's big loss to Timpview in its final game of the regular season, the Bulldogs have been practicing against the Woods Cross Wildcats.

The 8-2, Region 7 runners-up have broken down film of their opponent in the first round of the 4A state tournament, set up their reserve players in Woods Cross formats, and practiced.

What have the Bulldogs learned from this?

"They're not going to be easy to beat," Provo head coach Saia Pope said.

Woods Cross, the third place finisher in Region 6, has averaged over 30 points per game while playing consistently throughout the season. The Wildcats are led by CJ Corry in the rushing attack and quarterback Tyler Parson has connected with Mark Evans and Darchon Taggart for a successful passing game.

"They have a couple good running backs and receivers. They look like a good team," Pope said.

The Bulldogs, on the other hand, boast Maka and Keoki Unufe. The two have accounted for 10 and eight touchdowns, respectively, and for over 1,200 yards of total offense combined this season.

"Not many teams can stop him (Maka)," Pope said of his senior receiver.

Quarterback Matt Griner is also a crucial piece of the Provo squad. He has accumulated 10 touchdowns and over 1,100 passing yards while directing the Bulldog offense.

Pope's team was on a six-game winning streak before losing to Timpview in their final game. The only other Provo loss was to 5A's West Jordan before region play began.

"I hope the team that's been winning comes to play (on Friday)," Pope said. "We had our best week of practice before we played Timpview, but we didn't play like we could."
