UVU track: Records fall at Washington, Boise State

BOISE, Idaho and SEATTLE, Wash. — The Utah Valley University men's and women's indoor track teams kept up their assault on school records at the Husky Classic and Boise State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In all, the Wolverines set four new school records, while four other runners set personal bests.

The men's 4 x 400 team of Michael McPherson, Jacob Brydson, Taylor Asay and Skylar Burningham set a new record at 3 minutes, 17.19 seconds. The other record-breakers were Ali Shields, in the triple jump (11.08m); Zandrea Nelson, in the 400m (56.08, 6th overall); and Aleina Eisenhaur-Winger, in the mile (4:53.39).

"I thought we'd have some good times, but I wasn't expecting it across the board to get school records," UVU coach Scott Houle said. "I was impressed with it."

Also, Shelise Walker had a personal best and second-best time in school history in the mile (4:56.24); Cliff Nielson in the 3000m (8:25.91), which was good for 29th overall; Becca Hutton in the weight throw (50 feet, 5th overall); and Angie Baker in the 5000m (17:50.17).

In other notable performances at the Husky Classic:

Trevor Baker finished 11th in his section in the 5000m (15:02.98) and 76th overall.

In the women's 5,000m, Brooke Hodson (17:30.94, 54th overall), Stephanie Christensen (17:33.31, 55th overall), and Baker (17:50.17) finished fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively, in their sections.

In the 800m, Tim Rowberry (1:55.21) finished 44th overall.

Eisenhauer-Winger finished 24th overall in the mile and Walker was 30th.

Joshua McCabe finished fourth overall in the mile (4:09.10) and Chris Dorton was 17th overall (4:14.01).

At Boise State, Sydni Samuels (2:24.41), Stephanie Talbot (2:24.52) and Hannah Groom (2:25.97) finished 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 800m.

In the mile, Kalina Zufelt-Clegg (5:16.67) and Jessica Wilding (5:18.19) placed 10th and 11th.

In the 3000m, Ally Deeter (10.41.33) and Mackenzie Roberts (10:48.48) placed third and fifth.

In the 5000m, Wilding (18:27.72), Deeter (18:53.19) and Roberts (19:18.02) went 1-2-3.

Nelson, Megan Burr, Sally Hansen and Lexie Esplin finished second in the 4 x 400 relay (3:54.47).

Allah Laryea-Akrong had a pair of top three finishes in the 60m (2nd, 6.81) and 200m (3rd, 21.54).

In the 5000m, the Wolverines took the top five spots: Macy Butterfield (15:11.07); Felix (15:23.88); Spencer Evensen (15:34.34); Spencer Foster (15:52.63) and Alexander Dutton (16:20.39).

Burningham was third overall in the 400m (49.17); Trevor Sharp (6th, mile 4:21.17); Mike Felix (5th, 3000m, 8:45.54); McPherson (5th, 60m hurdles, 8.41); Aaron Best (6th, shot put, 47-08 ½).

The Wolverines are back in action on Feb. 26-27 at the Great West Conference Championships in Chicago.
