FARMINGTON — You can already congratulate Farmington Mayor Scott Harbertson on his election: He's running unopposed for office.

But the race for two open seats on the City Council is in full swing. Both council incumbents opted not to run for re-election.

John S. Bilton, 46, is a sales and marketing executive who began serving on the Farmington Planning Commission in 2006. Bilton says he understands Farmington's issues as a business owner and developer.

He sees development as one of the city's most important issues and wants to make sure developers don't take advantage of the city.

Bilton also wants to build sustainable developments, encourage an efficient flow of traffic through the city and preserve open space.

Kevin Poff, 43, teaches junior-high English and geography and is a recent member of the Planning Commission. As a trained geographer, Poff says he has a unique perspective about what elements affect Farmington's character.

He says he has a proven record for fighting to preserve Farmington's historic, close-knit and neighborly atmosphere.

Jim Talbot, 59, is a real estate developer and owner of Winger's in Kaysville who served on the Planning Commission for five years.

Talbot promises to be committed to Farmington's integrity and to carefully plan for commercial, residential and transportation development in the city.

Anita Todd, 55, works in small-business management and is a homeowners' association government-relations officer representing more than 500 homes. Todd has served as a parks and recreation committee chairwoman and a school safety commissioner.

She says she lives in an area of the city needing representation and wants to preserve Farmington's character.
