Snow showers in the Salt Lake area are expected to continue all day Tuesday and into Wednesday, according to the local office of the National Weather Service.

There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday, and a daytime accumulation of 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible. Temperatures will fall to 37 degrees by 5 p.m. Tuesday in Salt Lake City.

As of Tuesday morning, traffic in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons was limited to chains and four-wheel drive vehicles, because of heavy snow.

Traffic accidents across the Salt Lake area were relatively light compared to what they have been during previous winter storms. The Utah Highway Patrol responded to 24 crashes and three slide-offs and helped three people who suffered minor injuries in Salt Lake County Tuesday morning, said trooper Cameron Roden.

Tuesday night's low will drop to 27 degrees, with the chance of snow overnight at 60 percent and up to 1 inch of new snow possible.

Wednesday will feature a 40 percent chance of snow showers and a high of only 38 degrees.

No moisture is expected Wednesday evening or Thursday during the day, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday all have a slight chance of rain.

Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high temperature of 53.

Monday will be the warmest day in the next week, with a high of 58 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
