DIXIE STATE

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Red Storm scored two early goals and never looked back defeating the host Vulcans of Hawaii-Hilo 3-1 in Pacific West Conference play at Amauulu Field to complete a four-game sweep on the islands over the last week in Hilo, Hawaii.

Dixie State (11-3, 10-0) has won 10 conference matches in-a-row and maintained a six-point lead over second place BYU-Hawaii. The loss for Hawaii-Hilo (3-8-4, 2-4-3) drops them into seventh place in the Pac West.

Mikala Wilkes scored both first half goals, her team-leading 10th and 11th of the season. In the seventh minute, Wilkes received a pass from Kelsey Tesoro and scored past Hilo goalie Shanna Brown. Ahead 1-0, Wilkes found the net again a second into the 35th minute to give DSC a 2-0 advantage into halftime. Abby Monroe faced four shots in the first half in goal and made one save.

Dixie State kept the pressure on the Vulcans by recording the first nine shots of the second period, but could not extend the lead.

Hilo cut the lead to a goal in the 72nd minute when Emily Lambert caught a pass on her chest and fired a goal assisted by Alysia Salvador. DSC's defense stepped up and held Hilo to just one shot in the game's final minutes. The Storm sealed the win with a Carly Haycock goal in the 87th minute. Tonya Smith made one save in net for DSC in the second half.

The women's team makes their return home Friday night at 7 p.m. against Grand Canyon University. The match will mark the first of four at Hansen Stadium to complete the regular season.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Red Storm ound themselves on the wrong side of a shutout for the second straight match in Hawaii falling to the Vulcans of Hilo 4-0 on Saturday.

After scoring six goals in two wins to start the road trip, Dixie State (5-8-1, 3-7) were held without a score in the final two matches. Hawaii-Hilo (7-8, 6-3) had season highs with 24 shots, 14 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.

The Storm was led by leading goal scorer Jordan Roylance and Josh Hernandez with three shots. GK Tyler McAninch made a season best nine saves while the team recorded 10 in total.

Dixie State returns home Friday, October 30 against conference-leader Grand Canyon at 4:30pm. Live stats of the match from Hansen Stadium can be found online at DixieAthletics.com.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Red Storm were chosen to finish third in the nine-team Pacific West Conference while senior forward Andy Palmer was the school's lone selection to the all-conference preseason squad.

The Red Storm was selected to finish third in the conference behind BYU-Hawaii — the preseason D-II top-ranked team — and Grand Canyon University under first year coach Russ Pennell.
