MOAB — An Idaho man died Friday while mountain biking on the Gold Bar Rim Trail, the Grand County Sheriff's Office said.
Todd Johnston, 42, of Ketchum, was riding with two friends at about 2:45 p.m. when witnesses said he complained of being tired and wanted to walk his bike.
Johnston's friends continued up the trail, then waited for him to catch up, the sheriff's office said. When he didn't arrive after about five minutes, the friends rode back down the trail and found a group of motorcycle riders performing CPR on Johnston.
Sheriff's deputies, joined by Bureau of Land Management rangers and rangers from Arches National Park, responded to the scene and continued CPR. They also used an automatic external defibrillator, but after an hour of attempting to revive the man, Johnston was pronounced dead.
