WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Wildcats picked up a crucial road win on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State at Hornet Soccer Field in Sacramento.
The Wildcats, needing as many points as they can get from their last three Big Sky Conference road matches, earned the full three against the Hornets with the shutout win.
Jessie Baddley put the Wildcats on the board in the 27th minute, converting on a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season. The Wildcats were rewarded the attempt after a Sacramento State defender committed a two-foot tackle inside the box.
In the 71st minute, Kelly Robinson played a lead pass to Baddley, who served a cross in front of the Hornet goal. Collette Simmons got on the end of the cross, blasting home an insurance goal from eight yards out.
The Wildcats nearly added a third goal less than two minutes later after Hornet goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie tackled a Wildcat attacker in the box, resulting in WSU's second penalty kick of the match.
Baddley again stepped to the 12-yard spot, but Abercrombie was up to the challenge this time, turning away the attempt.
Rebecca Ritchie recorded seven saves to preserve the shutout for the Wildcats. The clean sheet was the fifth of the season for the senior goalkeeper and was the 21st of her career.
