First Presbyterian celebrating heritage

First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City, 12 C St., is celebrating its Scottish roots with its 26th annual Ceilidh today. The celebration culminates with the Kirkin' o' th' Tartan worship service Sunday featuring bagpipe music and the blessing of the clans. The Ceilidh, which is Gaelic for "party," honors the founding of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City, the Community Concert Series and Odyssey House. Activities include craft booths, a bake sale, tearoom and Highland dance competition. The Cross and Thistle Pub will begin serving fish and chips and other fare while patrons enjoy live Celtic music. The Celtic band Idlewild will perform today at 8 p.m at the church. Admission is $5 per person. Pastor Michael Imperiale, the Salt Lake Scots Pipe Band and the church chancel choir will take part in the Kirkin' Sunday at two services at 9 and 11 a.m. For more information, call 363-3889 or go to www.fpcslc.org.

Faiths to unite today against climate change

Utah faith communities will unite in a statewide effort to symbolize the urgent need to prevent catastrophic climate change. Today, houses of worship statewide will ring church bells at 3:50 p.m. to call communities to awareness and action in addressing the global climate crisis.

The event is sponsored locally by Utah Interfaith Power and Light (Utah IPL)

P.E.O bazaar today at Methodist church

The annual Philanthropic Educational Organization. Bazaar will be today, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South. Featured are decorations and crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and books, plants, baby items, Americana, make-a-mug, candy, baked goods, treasures, an outstanding silent auction, coffee bar and luncheon.

P.E.O. is a nonprofit organization; its main purpose is to help women students through scholarships, grants and low-interest loans. All proceeds from the bazaar are used for these educational purposes.

4-day celebration of St. Jude to begin

MURRAY— St. Jude Maronite Catholic Parish will hold a four-day celebration in honor of St. Jude, Holy Apostle of Our Lord, and Saint of Impossible Causes, Sunday through Wednesday.
