Halloween fun among the shows opening
A little bit of Halloween fun or a deep look into the human psyche — both are part of this week's stage openings.
"Absent Friends," Oct. 28-Nov. 14, Margett's Theatre, Brigham Young University, Provo.
A contemporary British play about Colin, who has recently lost his wife to a drowning and returns to his friends for comfort. But there is tension among the old friends because of the past. It stars Megan Ann Jones and Christopher Davis.
Shows are nightly, except Sunday and Monday, 7:30 p.m., with matinees available. Tickets are $15 (801-422-4322 or www.byu.edu).
"Frightmare: A Musical Spooktacular," Oct. 30, Egyptian Theatre, 328 S. Main, Park City.
Impack Studios will bring to life the creepy characters we love to hate. Spirits will come alive with singing, dancing and acting.
One show, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15-$18 (435-649-9371 or www.parkcityshows.com).
"Virtue," Oct. 26, Salt Lake Acting Company, 168 W. 500 North.
Part of SLAC's new play sounding series, this is a reading of Tim Slover's new play. It's the story of mystic Hildegard, known in the 12th century because of her extraordinary music. She was famous throughout Europe for her visions.
It stars Sarah Shippobotham, Nick O'Donnell, Kurt Proctor, Natalie Blackman and Amy Caudill.
One show, 7 p.m., free (801-363-7522 or www.saltlakeactingcompany.org).
