A scooter driver was critically injured in a head-on collision with a car in downtown Salt Lake Thursday evening.
The driver, a man in his 30s or 40s, was travelling south on 300 West when a car made a left turn toward the I-15 freeway entrance at 500 South, cutting off the scooter and causing it to collide with the car, sending the rider flying into the windshield, police said.
The scooter rider broke both his legs from the impact, which was severe enough that police say the man's femur bone came through the skin.
The driver and passenger of the car were not injured in the accident.
