Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Joan Osborne considers herself lucky.

She's lucky to have had five Grammy nominations that stemmed from her 1995 major-label debut album "Relish" and the hit single "One of Us."

She's lucky the album sold more than 3 million copies in the United States alone. She's lucky the "One of Us" hit the Top 5.

"I did have a really big success right off the bat," said Osborne during a telephone interview from Chico, Calif. "And even though the years right after that were a little bit difficult because I was trying to reproduce that success, and everyone around me was trying to get me to reproduce it, the good thing was that didn't happen.

"Every morning I would get up and feel this weight hanging over me."

But as time went on, she realized she still had enough of a boost and had an audience and a reputation as an artist.

Once she got around the notion that she had to repeat that initial success, she was able to sit back and do what she wanted.

Since "Relish," Osborne has released seven studio albums and has completed her eighth.

In addition, she is still able to tour and has worked with some great musicians.

This year, Osborne is touring with the Holmes Brothers, a group of rootsy blues musicians whom she has known for 15 years.

In fact, they are her backing band, along with her regular keyboardist Keith Cotton.

"It's going to be my own material but through the very raw, gritty, funky lens of the Holmes Brothers," Osborne said about her live show. "They sing so well, and it's like having a gospel choir back you up, and they play with such soul and conviction.

"It's been really, really great hearing my songs reimagined through their takes."

Osborne produced the Holmes Brothers' gospel album "Speaking in Tongues" back in 2003. And she just produced their upcoming CD, of which the master tapes were sent off to a record label last week.

"I've seen them grow as songwriters and as artists," she said. "And that is inspiring to see these guys in their 60s and 70s still doing it and not just repeating themselves."

Just a little more than a year ago, Osborne released her seventh album, "A Little Wild One."

The sessions reunited Osborne with her "Relish" songwriting/production team — Eric Bazilian, Rick Chertoff and Rob Hyman.

"It was very interesting to come back to that relationship years later," she said. "There is always a creative energy when we are in the same room, but we're a lot older."

Osborne said she changed the most because she was the "rookie" during those first sessions more than a decade ago.
