EPA cites 5 public water systems
The Environmental Protection Agency issued administrative orders to five public water systems in Utah that were not complying with the nation's Safe Drinking Water Act.
Issued earlier this year, the orders require corrective actions on the part of the water systems, which had multiple violations. All systems have since submitted plans to come into compliance.
Those systems are:
Chester Park Water System, Mount Pleasant — Exceeding maximum levels for total coliform bacteria and failure to monitor for total coliform bacteria, nitrate, lead and copper, pesticides, inorganic contaminants and radionuclides.
Dutch John — Failing to monitor for E. coli bacteria, lead and copper, disinfectant levels, turbidity and disinfection byproducts.
East Carbon City — No monitoring for E. coli bacteria, nitrate, inorganic contaminants, volatile organic contaminants and disinfection byproducts.
Paradise RV Park, Panguitch — No monitoring for total coliform bacteria and nitrate.
Sunset Park Water Co., Tremonton — No monitoring for nitrate, lead and copper, volatile organic contaminants, pesticides and inorganic contaminants.
Additionally, three notices of violations were issued against public water systems that include Clean Harbors-Aragonite, Harmony Farms Water Users, New Harmony; and Sorrel River Ranch in Moab, all of which will be required to take corrective action. Three other water systems received violations notices, which were addressed through state action or other regulatory oversight.
