Dee Hamala, Murray football: The senior quarterback kept the Spartans' playoff hopes alive by leading Murray to a 24-17 overtime win over Cyprus last week.
Hamala accounted for nearly 300 yards of offense and scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime with a 1-yard run. He also tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Julian Moore in the victory over the Pirates.
In eight games this season, Hamala has scored 18 touchdowns and led Murray to three wins.
"He is one of the loyal kids that committed himself to help turn our program around," said Murray coach Dan Aragon. "We still have a long way to go before we are in the elite category but I will forever be indebted to him for his efforts."
Sadi Hoyt, Hurricane, volleyball: This rightside hitter is key to the Tigers both offensively and defensively thanks to her athletic skill and jumping ability.
"Sadi is just a tremendous talent," said Tigers head volleyball coach Dan McKeehan. "She is so strong. This year she has developed the confidence to match her strength."
She earned 23 kills in wins on the road against Dixie and then at home versus Pine View. She also earned 13 aces in the two matches.
"She is also a state champion track athlete (shot put) and she is deceptively quick as she is also a sprinter," Hoyt said.
