Ex-officer agrees to court plea deal
A former Salt Lake police narcotics squad detective entered into an agreement in court Monday that will wipe his record clean of drug possession and sex solicitation charges if he follows court orders for one year.
Ryan Alfred Atack, 41, entered pleas in abeyance to one count of attempted possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and another count of sexual solicitation, a class B misdemeanor, according to court documents. He waived time for sentencing.
Third District Judge L.A. Dever accepted the pleas and ordered Atack to keep on getting counseling and provide the court with updated reports each month. If Atack does what Dever requires, the judge will dismiss the charges in a year.
Atack left the police department in 2006 after he appeared agitated and unable to focus while on the job. At the time, he tested positive for amphetamines and admitted he had struggled with addiction "for some time."
However, in April, he was arrested after offering a female undercover police officer $200 for a sex act during a wide-ranging sting operation that netted 62 arrests. While searching Atack, arresting officers found a controlled substance in his possession.
