Salt Lake Bees announce 2010 schedule
The season's over, but there is some buzz coming out of the Salt Lake Bees front office.
This morning the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced its schedule for the 2010 season.
Salt Lake will open its 17th season of play in Sin City, where it will take on the Las Vegas 51s on April 8. The Bees will play their first eight games in Nevada, with the second four-game slated against the Reno Aces.
The Bees' home season-opener at Spring Mobile Ballpark will be on April 16 against the Tacoma Rainiers.
Overall, Salt Lake will play 72 home games and 72 road games in 152 days. Every game will be broadcast live on either 1320 KFAN or 1230 KFAN 2 by the voice of the Bees Steve Klauke.
The 2010 season marks the club's 10th year of affiliation with the Angels, who are currently playing in the American League Championship Series with a slew of Salt Lake alumni. With the Angels as the parent club, Salt Lake has tallied a 671-621 record, four division championships and one trip to the PCL championship series.
Salt Lake will host division rivals Tacoma Rainiers, Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Portland Beavers as well as Pacific South Division opponents Sacramento River Cats, Las Vegas 51s, Fresno Grizzlies and Reno Aces for eight games each. Salt Lake will also host all four American South Division teams for four games each against the Oklahoma City Redhawks, New Orleans Zephyrs, Albuquerque Isotopes and Round Rock Express. The Bees will travel to American North Division teams Iowa Cubs, Memphis Redbirds, Omaha Royals and Nashville Sounds for four games each.
The Bees welcomed 492,321 fans to Spring Mobile Ballpark in 2009, averaging 7,240 fans per ballgame to rank in the top five of the 16-team PCL. The eighth-millionth fan entered the turnstiles on June 4.
Salt Lake rallied to finish the 2009 season with a 72-71 record, marking the fifth-consecutive winning season for the club.
