Two motocross riders were injured during separate races at a Halloween thriller event at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Sunday.

The first rider, a 15-year-old boy from Salt Lake City, crashed his bike about 1:45 p.m. and was sent by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center with a possible broken leg, said Jeff Midgley, safety and security director for Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City.

And just 15 minutes later, a 20-year-old male from Ogden lost consciousness after crashing his bike in the junior racing class. He was conscious when flown to University Hospital, Midgley said. Both riders were in stable condition, he said.

"There were 200 riders over two days with virtually no incidents. But accidents do happen," Midgley said. "That's part of the game, whether you're playing high school football or motocross racing."

An 8-year-old boy was killed last June at the raceway when his bike crashed during a race.

Midgley said the raceway experiences few injuries in comparison to the number of racers riding all year.
