PLAIN CITY — Davis tailback Tanner Hinds had a pretty simple explanation for what happened against the Fremont Silver Wolves Friday night.

"I just ran, and good things happened," he said.

By good things, Hinds was referring to his 29 carries that led to 241 yards and four touchdowns, leading Davis (6-2, 6-1) to a 28-6 Region 1 victory over Fremont (5-4, 5-3). The win puts the Darts in control of the region title race and in position to open the playoffs at home.

"It's just another week in Region 1," Davis coach Ryan Bishop said. "It was huge. Fremont is a class program. This is always a tough place to play."

Hinds was nearly unstoppable all night, pounding his way through the large holes created by the Darts' offensive line and carrying two or three Fremont defenders with him before finally hitting the ground. After Davis gave up nine yards on a fumbled pitch early in the first quarter, Hinds gave the Darts an early 7-0 lead by taking the ball 34 yards to the end zone on the very next play. On their next possession, Hinds took it in from six yards out to put Davis up 14-0 early in the second.

"We just started fast, we didn't do that last week (in Davis' 24-21 loss to Viewmont)," Hinds said. "We didn't have to come back this week."

Fremont showed some signs of life later in the second, as Brody Garr found Braxton Willie across the middle from five yards out to cut the lead to 14-6 with under a minute to go.

But the Davis defense came up big by holding Fremont scoreless on its opening drive of the second half.

After getting the ball back, a pair of penalties looked like they might stall Davis' offense. But the Darts kept giving the ball to Hinds, and Hinds kept picking up first downs, racking up 64 of Davis' 80 yards on that drive. He scored his third touchdown of the night from 23 yards out, taking the ball off tackle and looking like he was stopped before breaking out of the pack and away from Fremont's defense.

"We didn't start out very good (on that drive), we had a bunch of penalties," Bishop said. "I was proud of how our kids overcame and drove the ball down the field and put points on the board."

The Darts put the Silver Wolves away for good in the fourth, as Hinds finished his night by taking the ball 37 yards for his fourth touchdown of the game.

So how does Davis keep the momentum going? Once again, Hinds kept it simple.

"We've just got to keep working hard," he said.
