Author is bringing tales to Utah Sunday

Zalman Velvel loves to tell stories about the turning points in people's lives that revolve around faith.

Velvel brings his laugh-out-loud and wipe-away-a-tear stories to Utah on Sunday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., at Chabad Lubavitch, 1760 S. 1100 East.

His visit constitutes the Salt Lake City leg of the author's national book tour.

Velvel's award-winning stories and plays have been published around the world, with some currently appearing on the prestigious and widely read Web site of Chabad.org.

Methodist church plans annual bazaar

The annual P.E.O. Bazaar will be Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South.

Featured are decorations and crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and books, plants, baby items, Americana, make-a-mug, candy, baked goods, treasures, an outstanding silent auction, coffee bar and luncheon.

P.E.O. is a nonprofit organization; its main purpose is to help women students through scholarships, grants and low-interest loans. All proceeds from the bazaar are used for these educational purposes.

Women's league to hold benefit lunch

The Catholic Woman's League will hold its annual Benefit Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. at Little America Hotel, 500 South Main.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling Patty Martinez at 801-571-6952 by Oct. 16.

This year's beneficiaries are Intermountain Therapy Animals and Utahns Against Hunger.

Jewish Book Fair is set for Nov. 14-20

A Jewish Book Fair will be Nov. 14-20 at the Wagner Jewish Community Center, 2 North Medical Drive.

Kings English Book store and Night Flight Comics will be providing the books, with 500 different selections to choose from.

Proceeds from the book fair benefit Jewish Community Center.

The event is free and open to the public.
