TOOELE — A 5-year-old boy was injured Friday when his leg was run over by a pickup truck.
The boy was leaving a home at 873 W. 580 South about 10 a.m. with his grandmother and younger brother when the incident occurred, said Tooele Police Lt. Paul Wimmer.
Wimmer said the younger brother climbed into a pickup truck before anyone else could and disengaged the parking brake. The truck began to roll backward down the driveway, knocking over the 5-year-old and running over his right leg at the knee, the lieutenant said.
The boy was taken to Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele by ambulance with a laceration to his knee and bruising.
The police investigation is ongoing, but Wimmer said he doesn't expect charges to be filed, based on early indications.
"I think this is about as pure an accident as you can get," he said.
