Here is a look at what other news outlets are saying about BYU and SDSU as the two MWC conference schools prepare to face each other Saturday.

From The Daily Aztec:

BYU Preview

The San Diego State football team is coming off a bye week, which head coach Brady Hoke said was very good for the players.

"In this day and age of football, this is a 12-month-a-year undertaking for kids, Hoke said. I think its important during that bye week to get them some time to get off their feet and to mentally get themselves ready for whats ahead of them in this marathon."

Brent Schrotenboer of The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote:

Series' recent history tilted in BYU's favor

Oddsmakers and recent history have reached the same conclusion about football games between San Diego State and Brigham Young. They're usually lopsided.

BYU is a 17-point favorite for tomorrow's game at Qualcomm Stadium and has beaten the Aztecs in 12 of the past 14 meetings — and by at least 21 points in its last four wins. Yet sometimes a few stars align themselves in just such a way.

This week, there are at least two possibly favorable cosmic alignments for the Aztecs:

An extra week of preparation for SDSU, which had last weekend off.

The possibility that No. 18 BYU (5-1) might be overlooking SDSU (2-3) in anticipation of next week's big Mountain West Conference game against No. 12 Texas Christian (5-0).

"I don't put much stock in either one of them," SDSU head coach Brady Hoke said.

Nick Canepa of the same paper took a look back 30 years:

BYU's '79 rout was bad omen for the Aztecs

It was supposed to represent a beginning. It was all of that, all right — the beginning of a 30-year slide into and beyond Belowaverageville.
