TreeUtah and Smith's Food & Drug will donate more than 100 trees to Salt Lake City as part of re-greening efforts to improve urban and community forests.
The trees will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Smith's Food & Drug store at 876 E. 800 South in Salt Lake City.
According to TreeUtah, fall is a great time of year to plant a tree. The weather is cooler and less stressful to a tree adapting to a new environment, said Kelly Washburn, TreeUtah's urban and community forestry program coordinator. "A fall-planted tree will have a jump on spring to help it develop its new root system, which is very important for newly planted trees."
TreeUtah is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to tree planting and education. For more information, visit www.treeutah.org.
