The Washington D.C. Temple is closed for the next several days because of a water main break that occurred Oct. 14.Temple President Earl C. Tingey reports that the temple, which is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' 16th operating temple — located at 9900 Stoneybrook Drive in Kensington, Md. — currently has no water, restroom facilities or heat.However, Pres. Tingey said Thursday that repairs were underway on the
incoming water line and he expected the temple could be open again very
soon.
There was no damage to the temple itself, he said.
\"We noticed the leak and just turned the water off,\" he said.President Tingey said this weekend looked to be a very busy weekend but everyone has been rescheduled. \"Everybody has been very good about it,\" he said.Those with living ordinance reservations or who need to schedule baptisms for the dead or weddings are asked to e-mail: washi-office@ldschurch.org.Those who wish to submit names for the prayer roll are asked to call the Orlando, Fla., temple at 407-876-0022.The temple's visitor center remains open.To get updated information, call the temple phone at 301-588-0650. Temple was the first temple built in the East Coast of the United States and the first temple to feature six spires since the construction of the Salt Lake Temple, which inspired the design.Soaring to a height of 288 feet, the Washington Temple is the tallest temple in the church.The temple is the only one outside of Utah to be built with six ordinance rooms. It is also one of five temples featuring an angel Moroni statue holding the gold plates. (The other four are the Los Angeles California Temple, Jordan River Utah Temple, Seattle Washington Temple and Mexico City Mexico Temple.)
