WALK FOR HOPE SATURDAY

U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team athlete Bryan Fletcher of Steamboat Springs, Colo., will participate in the Walk for Hope on Saturday in Salt Lake City.

The race portion of the Walk for Hope begins at 8 a.m. at Liberty Park, followed by the walk portion of the event at 10 a.m.

Fletcher teamed up with Candlelighters, an organization that helps families and children with cancer, to put on the event, which hopes to raise $30,000 that will be donated toward cancer research and to help families by sponsoring special programs for children who have been stricken with the disease.

"Our goal is trying to raise $30,000 for the program," says Fletcher, who was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia at age 3 but, after undergoing chemotherapy treatment for a year, the cancer went into remission. "This is a small organization. They only go up to kids that are 18 years old, so the focus is the kids; $30,000 is an average goal for them, but it will help out tremendously."

The Haunted Fundraiser will be held at Kiwanis Park, 820 N. 1100 East in Provo. Registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $15 — or $10 for those wearing a Halloween costume — or $30 per family.
