AMERICAN FORK — The driver in the bus crash that killed an American Fork band instructor Saturday night in Idaho is also employed by the Nebo School District, officials said Tuesday.
Debra Jarvis, 50, of Spanish Fork, has been a driver for the school district since January 2003. She has an excellent driving record and recently passed a physical, according to district spokeswoman Lana Hiskey.
The district did not know of her other job with Lake Shore Motor Coach Lines, but that is not uncommon, Hiskey said. "Many of our employees have more than one job."
Jarvis was driving members of the American Fork High School Marching Band in a charter bus owned by the Provo-based company when she apparently blacked out for unknown reasons. Heather Christensen, 33, tried to grab the wheel as the bus veered off I-15 and rolled over. She was partially ejected and died at the scene from her injuries.
"Our thoughts are with the Christensen family at this time," Hiskey said.
Crash investigators interviewed Jarvis over the weekend and will speak with her again if they determine it is necessary, said Idaho State Police Lt. Ismael Gonzales.
Records of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration show no accidents for Lake Shore over the past 24 months. The company has said it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
