Crash with semi kills California woman

PANGUITCH — A California woman has died from injuries suffered in a crash with a tractor-trailer truck in Garfield County, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Dana A. George, 55, had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of state Route 12 and U.S. 89 near Panguitch about 5:30 p.m. Sunday and then turned into the path of a semitrailer heading north on U.S. 89, said trooper Kevin Wright.

The semitrailer continued north and rolled over, sliding through a fence and up a dirt embankment. George was ejected from her vehicle. She was being taken to the Panguitch airport to be airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray when she died.

Two passengers, both from California, were transported to Garfield Hospital with injuries, Wright said. One of the passengers was later flown to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the semitrailer, Larry Bowens of Phoenix, was also transported to Garfield Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The accident is still under investigation. Wright said all victims were wearing seat belts.
