Washington City police arrested a St. George high school teacher Friday on suspicion of multiple charges, including sexual abuse of a child.

John Cody, 39, a teacher at Pine View High School, was arrested Friday for incidents alleged to have occurred between June 2008 and August 2009 involving three girls ages 12, 15 and 18.

Washington City Public Safety Chief Ed Kantor said Monday that the conduct under investigation occurred at a Corral Canyon residential development recreational facility. In addition to sexual abuse of a child, Cody is also being investigated on suspicion of sexual battery and forcible sex abuse. Kantor would not elaborate on what evidence led police to Cody, who has not been formally charged.

Cody posted bail of $26,850 and was released from jail Friday.

According to Cody's profile on the Pine View High School Web site, he has taught at the school for the past nine years and also coached boys and girls sports teams. He had previously taught for nine years at Cody High School in Cody, Wyo.

He is married and the father of one son.

Officials at Pine View could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
