Grizzlies drop preseason opener to Idaho
LOGAN — The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in preseason action Friday night at the Eccles Ice Center.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 10:06 into the first period and 40 seconds into their second power-play as Luke Sellars held in an Idaho clearing attempt and fired a shot from the high slot through traffic and past Idaho goaltender Richard Bachman. The Utah power-play struck again, giving them a 2-0 lead, at 4:02 of the second period, on a rebound goal that was hammered home by Shay Guthrie. Idaho made it 2-1 with a power-play goal. Utah claimed a 3-1 lead when Jason Dale fed Scott Thauwald for a breakaway goal at 14:59 of the second period.
But the Steelheads rallied in the third period with two goals in a span of 2:08 to tie it at 3-3. They then capped off their three-goal third period with 3:45 remaining on a Kyle Radke score that ultimately became the game-winner.
Utah and Idaho meet again in preseason action tonight in McCall, Idaho. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
