4 more months in jail for 'Hipster Grifter'

The so-called "Hipster Grifter" will serve four more months in jail.

Kari Ferrell was sentenced in 3rd District Court Friday on two cases of forgery and attempted forgery.

Ferrell, 22, gained Internet notoriety after a story in the New York Observer detailed a series of alleged scams among Brooklyn's hipster scene. She was also dubbed one of the Salt Lake City Police Department's Most Wanted and had $60,000 in felony fraud warrants.

The Web is full of tales of people saying they were scammed by Ferrell, accusing her of faking pregnancies, cancer and jobs while fleecing people out of money. She even posted an online video confession of her own while on the run.

In May, police caught up with Ferrell in Philadelphia and arrested her. She was brought back to Utah and in August pleaded guilty to forgery, a third-degree felony, in one case, and an amended charge of attempted forgery, a class A misdemeanor, in another.

For the attempted forgery, Judge Judith Atherton on Friday sentenced Ferrell to a suspended 365-day jail term and 36 months probation. For the forgery. Ferrell was given a suspended prison term of up to five years and ordered to serve a 270-day jail sentence with credit given for 132 days served. She was also placed on 36 months probation for that charge.

The two sentences will run consecutively and the two probations concurrently.
