Juco hoops standout commits to Utah St.
Utah State's basketball team is in good hands with Jared Quayle manning the point guard position this year.
A source close to the basketball team told the Deseret News that USU coach Stew Morrill received a commitment from a big-time junior college guard recently that will make sure the Aggies continue to have a solid presence at the point for at least two more years.
Brockeith Pane, a transfer from the University of Houston who is currently at Midland Junior College in Texas, gave Utah State a verbal commitment to join the Aggies next year and will battle Jaxon Myaer and Brian Greene for playing time.
Pane, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Dallas' Carter High, played one season for Houston and started several games as a freshman, scoring 26 points against Grambling, but saw his playing time diminish as the season progressed. He finished the year averaging 6.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game. He shot 39.9 percent from the floor and 32.6 percent from 3-point range.
Two games into his sophomore year, he left the team citing personal reasons.
He'll play for Midland, the team that finished second in the JC national championship tournament to Salt Lake Community College last year, and have two years left to play for the Aggies.
As a senior at Carter High in Dallas, Pane averaged 24.6 points and 7.4 assists while earning first team all-state honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
