20 Utah cities receive history grants
Utah State History has awarded $140,000 in matching grants to 20 local governments for the 2009-2010 grant year. The following cities received grants for special projects:
Beaver — $8,400 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Beaver Public Library.
Centerville — $9,900 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Thomas Whittaker Historic Home/Museum.
Ephraim — $9,900 to re-roof the National Register-listed Ephraim Co-op Building.
Fillmore — $1,500 to prepare a National Register nomination for the Fillmore Legion Hall.
Gunnison — $9,900 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Casino Star Theatre.
Helper — $4,000 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Helper Hotel (Western Mining and Railroad Museum).
Leeds — $5,700 to rehabilitate the stone steps and walkways at the National Register-listed CCC Camp.
Lehi — $9,900 to rehabilitate historic wood windows at the Veteran's Memorial (Hutching Museum).
Logan — $2,000 for additional funds for the Logan Historic District survey.
Manti — $1,800 to prepare two National Register nominations.
Mt. Pleasant — $9,900 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Mt. Pleasant Carnegie Library.
Murray — $6,600 for additional funds for an extended reconnaissance level survey.
Payson — $9,900 to re-roof the National Register-listed Huish Theater.
Salt Lake City — $4,800 to prepare intensive level survey documentation on four historic buildings, and a National Register nomination for the Northwest Pipeline building (Public Safety building).
Sandy — $9,900 for rehabilitation work on the National Register-listed Sandy Co-op Building — exterior paint stripping and masonry restoration.
South Jordan — $9,900 to re-roof the National Register-listed Holt Farmstead.
Spring City — $9,750 for seismic upgrading at the National Register-listed Spring City School.
St. George — $2,000 to rehabilitate historic ground-level wood windows on the National Register-listed Dixie College Main (Dixie Academy).
Taylorsville — $9,900 to hire a licensed architect and engineer to develop plans and costs for rehabilitation/renovation of the historic McLeod house.
Tooele County — $4,150 to prepare reconnaissance level surveys for Pine Canyon, Lake Point and the Rush Valley Basin (Rush Valley and Vernon towns), and to finish the revised Wendover Air Field National Register nomination.
