New FILMS Friday

AMREEKA — ★★★ — A comedy-drama that's honest about the way it depicts family relationships and racial prejudices. With subtitles, running time: 97 minutes, PG-13 (profanity, drugs, violence, slurs, vulgarity)

COUPLES RETREAT — ★★ — They should have scrapped this crude relationship comedy entirely. Vince Vaughn stars. Running time: 109 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, profanity, sex, violence, brief partial nudity, brief drugs, brief gore, slurs)

EARTH DAYS — ★★½ — At times this environmentally friendly film comes off as a dry history lesson. Running time: 102 minutes, not rated, probable PG-13 (violence, drugs, vulgarity, brief gore, slurs)

ONE GOOD MAN — ★★ — As technically accomplished as it is, this LDS-centric drama isn't compelling, storywise. Running time: 90 minutes, PG (adult themes, slapstick violence)

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY — ★★½ — More fun than most studio horror films that drop into theaters most weekends. Running time: 99 minutes, R (profanity) — Roger Moore, The Orlando Sentinel

THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE — ★★★ — Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is interesting, and so is this fashion-centric documentary feature. Running time: 88 minutes, PG-13 (profanity, slurs, nude artwork)

SERAPHINE — ★★½ — Art lovers are more likely to enjoy or at least get more out of this biographical drama than casual filmgoers. French with subtitles, running time: 121 minutes, not rated, probable PG-13 (brief nudity, brief gore, slurs, brief drugs)

MIDNIGHT MOVIE

TOWER OF TERROR FILM SERIES — This week's film is "Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn." A schedule is available at www.towertheatre.com. (Oct. 9 and 10: Tower; also Oct. 11, noon)

RERELEASES

TOY STORY AND TOY STORY 2 IN 3-D — ★★★★ — The beloved Pixar animated features have been spruced up for their 10th anniversary. They're still hilarious and endearing, though. Shown in 3-D, total running time: 183 minutes, G (violence, mild vulgarity, slurs)
