University of Utah alumni John E. Warnock is one of nine national researchers who will receive the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on its scientists, engineers and inventors.
As founders of Adobe Systems, Warnock and colleague Charles M. Geschke are being recognized for their pioneering contributions that spurred the desktop publishing revolution, the techniques, tools and approaches used to engage with information.
"The entire U. community is extraordinarily proud of the legacy of its computing pioneers," said U. President Michael K. Young. "John Warnock is one of our most outstanding alumni and continues to inspire our success in engineering and technology. He is richly deserving of this honor."
Warnock earned bachelor's and master's degrees in math and a doctoral degree in electrical engineering at the U. He is one of several U. grads who have gone on to develop emerging technologies and later found educational and research opportunities for current students.
President Barack Obama will present Warnock with the 2008 National Medal of Technology and Innovation at a White House ceremony on Wednesday.
