CENTERVILLE — A 12-year-old boy has died due to injuries he suffered when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while riding his bicycle.
Jacob Park, of Centerville, was hit Sept. 22 by a Mazda CX-9, according to Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child.
Jacob was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition. He remained in the intensive care unit at the hospital, where he died Sunday after his family decided to remove him from life support, Child said.
The lieutenant said police do not anticipate charges against the driver of the Mazda, Evelyn Cook of Centerville.
"It was determined that this crash occurred in low-light conditions, the boy was wearing dark clothing, no light was displayed on the bicycle and the bicycle suddenly entered the crosswalk into the path of Cook's vehicle," Child said.
Investigators determined that after he was hit, Jacob was knocked to the pavement and the vehicle ran over his head with its left front tire. The Mazda was not speeding, Child said.
