Icy road conditions led to a handful of crashes on I-80 in Parleys Canyon on Monday, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
The most serious of the crashes involved a semitrailer that rolled off the road and down a hillside, pinning the driver inside.
Steven Sparks was taken by medical helicopter to the University Hospital in serious but stable condition with leg injuries.
The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. when the driver hit a patch of ice on an overpass, closed the eastbound onramp to I-80 near Parleys Summit. The truck was pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with bags of tile grout and a forklift.
