Officials worry about Powder Mountain road safety

POWDER MOUNTAIN, Utah (AP) — The Weber County Sheriff's Department says it is worried about the potential for more accidents on the only road to Powder Mountain if the ski resort becomes a year-round destination

This summer, a motor home crashed and killed one person after a motocross event at the resort.

Capt. Klint Anderson, a department spokesman, says the road to Powder Mountain is steeper and more treacherous than most roads that large vehicles usually go on.

Anderson says there's little the department can do to make the road more safe than enforce speed limits and snow tire requirements.

Powder Mountain spokeswoman Carolyn Daniels says the road is a state highway, so improvements or changes would be up to the Utah Department of Transportation.
