Faithful Finn forsakes fame for family

For Finnish music star Mervi Hiltunen-Multamaki, trading in exotic concert locales, a prime-time TV show and platinum records for diapers, dishes and dusting was an easy decision. Maybe that's because following the prophet has never been hard for her.

Hiltunen-Multamaki, a member of the Mikkeli Branch, Helsinki Finland Stake, has been in a popular Finnish musical group called "How Many Sisters?" for nearly three decades. She has performed on multiple continents, performed with Adiemus, a group of singers most well known in the U.S. for the music on the Delta commercials in the '90s, hosted her own prime-time TV show, and has even been the voice of the very Disney characters her children — ages 9, 7 and 4 — watch and adore on television.

But that's not where her story starts.

The second-generation Mormon grew up in Kuopio, 237 miles (382 km) north of the capital city of Helsinki. It was there that Hiltunen-Multamaki's gospel values and musical talent were developed — two qualities that have shaped her life ever since.
