Salt Lake Bees' Amicone earns PCL award

The Pacific Coast League has named Salt Lake Bees General Manager Marc Amicone its Executive of the Year for the 2009 season, an honor annually awarded by PCL owners and general managers to one league executive for distinguished performance.

"Marc clearly earned this special honor from other PCL clubs and executives based on the successful approaches he displayed in dealing with a number of unusual challenges this season," said PCL President Branch B. Rickey. "He has quickly garnered respect from league colleagues while supporting other clubs in maintaining and improving operational approaches. "Marc is a team player and he brings forward quality ideas in a manner which helps make all of our clubs better."

"Marc has done a tremendous job this season and throughout his tenure with the Bees," said Randy Rigby, president and chief operating officer of Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment. "The Bees have had continued success under his leadership and on behalf of the entire organization, I congratulate Marc on this elite honor."

Amicone joined the Salt Lake franchise as general manager prior to the 2005 season after serving as assistant athletic director for marketing at the University of Utah for 16 years. In just five years with the Bees, Amicone has presided over the organization's name change from the Stingers to the Bees, enjoyed three consecutive division titles and welcomed the franchise's 8,000,000th fan in 2009. This past season, Amicone headed the addition of Spring Mobile as a naming rights partner for the club's ballpark while also announcing that the Bees and Salt Lake City will host the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game.

"I am humbled and honored to be recognized with this award by my Pacific Coast League colleagues," said Amicone. "I want to thank all of our staff for their work this season. This award is truly reflective of their quality of work, and their commitment toward making Bees baseball the best entertainment value in Salt Lake City."

The Salt Lake City native will accept the prestigious award at Baseball's Winter Meetings in Indianapolis this December. Amicone becomes the first member of the 16-year-old Salt Lake franchise to receive the PCL award, which was established in 1974.
