EPHRAIM — The Snow College Badgers improved their record to 4-1 this season as they beat the Glendale Gauchos 47-14 on Saturday.

Snow College bounced back defensively to give up only 14 points compared to last week's poor showing when it gave up 54 in a loss to the New Mexico Military Broncos.

Snow's defense held Glendale to 76 yards rushing, had three sacks on the game, and also gave up 308 yards in total offense for the Gauchos.

"Our philosophy is to stop the running game," Snow coach Steve Coburn said. "We want to make the opposing team a one-dimensional team. We try and make them beat us by throwing the ball."

"Give all the credit to the defensive line for stopping Glendale's running game," said sophomore defensive back Gavin Jones, a former Orem High star. "That makes our job easier."

Snow's offense was equally impressive. Sophomore quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High) completed 20-of-27 passes for 340 yards and six touchdowns.

What was even more important was that his offensive line was able to provide protection for Mecham.

"The offensive line played huge for our offense today," Mecham said. "The only sacks we had in the game was really my fault."

Mecham had plenty of options to go to in the game, as his six touchdown passes were thrown to four receivers.

Snow turned to its tight ends to help carry the offensive load. Sophomore tight end Jordan Lower (Ogden High) had five receptions for 71 yards and two touchdowns. The other sophomore tight end, Jeremy Sondrup (Pleasant Grove High), had two catches for 79 yards and one touchdown.

"It gives you a lot of confidence as a quarterback," said Mecham. "To have the receivers we do on our team makes my job a whole lot easier."

Snow will look continue its strong recent play in Mesa next week. "We just need to focus on continuing to fulfill our assignments," said freshman McKay Frandsen.
