MANILA, Daggett County — A teenage boy was wounded in the lower abdomen Saturday when he was shot by a muzzle-loading rifle.

The boy, who lives on the Wasatch Front, was injured at about 8 a.m. in the Trail Creek Wildlife Management Area, said Daggett County Sheriff Rick Ellsworth.

The sheriff had few details on the incident, but said it appears the boy accidentally shot himself.

The teen never lost consciousness. He was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center in serious but stable condition, Ellsworth said.
