GRANTSVILLE — Fire crews expect to have a small wildfire burning in South Willow Canyon fully contained on Sunday.
Tooele County Fire Warden Roice Arnold said the 1 1/2-acre fire started about 3:40 p.m. Saturday in the canyon 10 miles southwest of Grantsville.
As many as 40 firefighters, joined by a helicopter, battled the blaze into the evening, Arnold said. Officials scaled back their attack as darkness fell, both for firefighter safety and because the blaze was no longer threatening homes and vacation cabins.
The canyon was temporarily closed and a voluntary evacuation order was issued. Arnold said he didn't believe anyone chose to evacuate.
The cause of fire is being investigated by the Tooele County Sheriff's Office and the Utah Division of Fire, Forestry, and State Lands.
